 OUR BABIES:

OUR BABIES

A revival however great, can never make up for the awful waste of young life through our neglect of education from the cradle up.  "Bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" is the divine plan for dealing with the Christian's children, instead of waiting for a big revival to sweep them into the right path after they got the wrong start.  -Gayle Oler

I like this excerpt from Gayle Oler, former supt. of Boles' Children's Home in Texas.  ** See page 20 of this blog...

One of the best sermons I've ever heard was Bro Oler's.  He was teaching on the church and he said that Satan wants to keep us out of the church of Christ...but if we get into it (obeying the gospel), it's a big blow to him but he will just work hard to get us back out of it.  If he can't get us back out of it...that's ok too.  He will just ruin us in it!   Very thought provoking, isn't it?

 Graves of Veterans

Graves of veterans from Civil War to World War 11.

We walked this and looked at every name, taking two rows each at a time.  We thought we might find an Ingram that could be one of Bobby's grandfather's brothers, but there was only one Ingram and he was too young to be.  May have been a 3rd or 4th cousin though.  May never know.

Some of the scenes in Rome, Georgia

We took this one while crossing the Tennessee River. I like the little islands out in the middle.

One of the seven hills of Rome, Georgia has this gigantic clock on top. All the hills are noted for something unique. A very beautiful city of about 38,000 is a great place to visit and do research on the Civil War.

One of the beautiful old structures on the Martha Berry College campus, in Rome, GA. The tree in the foreground must be very old.

 TOMB OF THE KNOWN SOLDIER

Monument of America's Known Soldier Bobby Ingram (Korean Conflict Veteran) and son, Wendell viewing monument.

In Rome,Georgia in Myrtle Hill Cemetery there is the tomb of the Known Soldier, who died in 1918 in the Hindenburg Line and was buried in France. He was moved to Arlington National Cemetery to join the body of the Unknown Soldier, after a sailor was blindfolded and asked to run his finger down the long list of "known dead" and his finger stopped at the name of Charles Graves of Rome, Georgia. Charles' mother had waited four years for the return of her son's body and she wanted him brought home for burial. The War Department agreed to her request but first honored him with a parade down Fifth Ave in New York with Admirals, Generals, three governors and five members of congress and several other dignitaries. Finally on April 6, 1922 Charles was laid to rest in the cemetery at Antioch Church. He was removed from there later and placed in a special memorial garden section of Myrtle Hill Cemetery after his mother had died and his brother agreed to it. That is part of the story of America's Known Soldier, buried for the third and final time in 1923.
